Greetings Neshobe Families and Caregivers,
This year, Vermont will again implement the Vermont Comprehensive Assessment Program (VTCAP) provided by Cognia. This assessment is completed on computers and will assess our state standards in ELA, math, and Science. The test provides tools for equity and accessibility (e.g., translations, embedded speech to text) and is adaptive as students take it.
Schools can administer these assessments this year between March 9 - May 1, 2026. At Neshobe, these assessments include:
VTCAP Language Arts and Mathematics: Grades 3-6
VTCAP Science Assessment: Grade 5
Tests can be administered at any time during the test window and will be administered during the typical school day. The schedule for testing at Neshobe is as follows:
Language Arts: March 30 - April 3 grades 3-6
Mathematics: April 6 - 10 grades 3-6
Science: April 13 - 17 grade 5
This assessment is required for all students in Grades 3-6. Students not present on the day of assessment will be pulled from class for a makeup test within the testing window.
After students have completed testing, Individual Student Reports will be sent to families via email and postal mail as soon as available. These reports will provide information on what your student(s) learned in relation to the statewide academic standards.
When reviewing test scores, it is important to consider that these tests provide a broad overview of demonstrated learning and that results are most useful when viewed in the context of other information gathered by the teacher and the school. The primary purpose of our testing program is to provide families and school leaders with an increased understanding of how teaching and learning is taking place and how students’ needs are being met.
Please note that Vermont’s test delivery system uses state of the art security features that protect your students’ privacy and adhere to all federal and state confidentiality regulations.
