We are Kind

We are Safe

We are Responsible

October 22, 2021

Dear Neshobe Families,

What a beautiful week it has been.  Yesterday, Rich and many others caught sight of an incredible rainbow over the school campus first thing in the morning.  The picture here does not show how truly brilliant it was!

Some important pieces of Information:

  1. Fall festivities for this coming Friday will be at the discretion of each classroom or grade level.

  2. There will be no school-wide celebration or parade.  Instead, there is discussion of a spring carnival or something similar. We will keep you informed as discussions progress.

  3. Family Engagement Night: On Tuesday, December 7th, district technology integration coaches Max Burman and Susan Hennessey -- along with school librarian Heather Fjeld -- will be hosting a technology night for us. This event will take place virtually from 6pm-7pm. They will be discussing digital citizenship -- both what students are learning in school, and how they can be supported at home. They will be covering topics such as: online safety; the impact of social media; living with technology; and, using technology for good. They will also cover district initiatives around technology. They are looking forward to working with you on technology and answering any questions that you might have.

  4. Parent Teacher Conferences: Parent/teacher conferences are being held on the afternoons of Wednesday, November 10th and Monday, November 15th.  Parents will have the option of in-person or virtual conferences.  More information will be coming home next week about how this will work.

  5. Fall is here!  As the weather gets colder, please make sure children come dressed for the changing conditions and temperatures.

Dismissal: A reminder that any shift in afternoon plans need to be called into the front office prior to 1:00 pm.  Walkers and riders are now the second group of students being called for dismissal (approximately 2:36) as one of our busses needs to leave immediately to get to drop students off and arrive at another school before 3.  Please wait until you hear the call for walkers and riders over the intercom to go meet you child(ren).

Kindness Challenge: Last month, the 6th graders embarked on a Kindness Challenge.  Every Monday (or the first day of the school week), each 6th grade student will be given an Act of Kindness on a slip of paper to complete before Friday.

Our 6th grade total for the week is 38 Acts of Kindness!!!

Our total for three weeks is 582!!!

Kudos to all 6th grade students who are taking up the challenge to be kind!

SOCKTOBER at Barstow:

It's Socktober!!!!!!!! Barstow Memorial 3rd grade is hosting a sock donation throughout October. They are aiming to donate 450 socks to homeless shelters, children in foster care, and families in need.

Any donations can be sent in with your kids. A collection box is located in the front office and will be there through Oct 29th.

The 3rd graders at Barstow thank you in advance.

SOAR Parents & Families:  Please join us on Thursday, Oct 28 for our Annual Lights ON Afterschool celebration!  This is a national event that SOAR has participated in for many years in support of afterschool programs across the country to keep the Lights On afterschool!  Come around 4:45 p.m. to enjoy some apple cider and donuts while seeing projects made by the SOAR students in recent weeks.  The late bus will still run for those students that ride the late bus and you are unable to make it to the celebration.  Questions?  Contact Nancy Bird at nbird@rnesu.org or 802-247-3721 Ext 2011.  Hope to see you there!

News from our Classrooms and Integrated Arts:

Art - John Brodowski

Hello from the Art room! We are finally wrapping up the art-making phase of this year's Square 1 Art PTO fundraiser. We’ve had a couple challenges this year, one was the approaching deadline combined with unexpected absences related to COVID, the other is that Square 1 Art has let us know they will not be providing free stickers this year because of challenges related to their supply chain. This is a big disappointment but, as usual, the students here at Neshobe have been flexible, patient, understanding, hard working, and have made the best of everything despite the challenges. Order packets should arrive in early November and, for those who place an order, products are estimated to arrive on December 9th. Below are a few examples of the awesome work students have been creating. If you have any questions please feel free to email me at jbrodowski@rnesu.org or visit square1art.com. Thanks!!! - Mr. B

Mrs. Collidge’s Class and Art -

Mrs. Coolidge's class got a chance to experiment with "erupting" their paper mache volcanoes this week. The students tried different combinations of baking soda, vinegar, dish soap, and food coloring to create the eruptions. Please feel free to click on this link to a video where you can watch some of the results! - Mr. B

Spanish - Tami Munford

In 3rd Grade Spanish we have been learning the parts of the cabeza (head) and practicing the alphabet as well as spelling our nombres (names) in Spanish. The 4th and 5th grade Spanish students have been reading and watching a story about eating helados (ice-cream) and chasing an arco iris (rainbow). In 6th grade Spanish we are exploring the verb tener (to have) and idiomatic differences between Spanish and English. For example, in Spanish you say tengo sed (I have thirst), rather than "I am thirsty."

Library - Hannah Fjeld -

Our Neshobe School library received all of these beautiful books as a donation from the One Shelf Project of Gedakina! The One Shelf Project shares and celebrates Native American wisdom by giving culturally relevant, historically accurate, and high-quality traditional literature and educational materials to schools and libraries each year. We are so grateful to have our students benefit from this gift of stories. To learn more about Gedakina, you can visit their website here: http://gedakina.org/

Mrs. Quenneville’s Classroom -

Mrs Peduto’s Class -

Mrs. Peduto’s kindergarten created some child sized leaf people for Neshobe School. The children stuffed kid sized clothing with leaves and attached them to stakes and placed them on the front lawn of Neshobe.  The class really enjoyed this traditional fall activity!  Special thanks to the Fjeld’s who donated the stakes! Enjoy the leaf people and have a happy and healthy fall!

Have a great weekend!
