Storywalk Community Build In Need of Community Volunteers

The Neshobe School in Brandon, VT is planning to install a Storywalk around the perimeter of the grounds to promote literacy, exercise, and nature.

“StoryWalk® is an innovative and delightful way for children — and adults! — to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time. Laminated pages from a children's book are attached to wooden stakes, which are installed along an outdoor path. As you stroll down the trail, you're directed to the next page in the story.

StoryWalks® have been installed in 50 states and 13 countries including, Germany, Canada, England, Bermuda, Russia, Malaysia, Pakistan and South Korea! They are always received with appreciation.” (from the website: KH Storywalk )

We are looking for volunteers to help install the Storywalk around the Neshobe School!

A Storywalk can be temporary or permanent. The posts at Neshobe will be 4” x 4” pressure treated wood, and will be set in concrete for a secure permanent footing. Each laminated page will be protected from the elements using a sheet of plexiglass that is screwed down into a plywood base. Special thanks to LaValley’s Building Supply and the Home Depot for donating all of the materials needed to build the Storywalk.

The teachers and staff of Neshobe School are collaborating with the Neshobe PTO to create this wonderful Storywalk on Saturday, October 15, 2022*** starting at 8:00 A.M. The holes will be dug with a tractor (thanks to parent TJ Dickinson). Volunteers will be tasked with placing the post in the hole and filling it with concrete. We will have a school-wide ribbon cutting ceremony to introduce the Storywalk to the community in the fall, featuring the book Up in the Garden, and Down in the Dirt, a science related picture book by author Kate Messner.

We are looking for volunteers to help install the Storywalk around the Neshobe School!

Please email Craig Davignon at  cdavignon@rnesu.org or the PTO President, Andrea Quesnel at anquesnel@rnesu.org to sign up. We hope to start at 8:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 15th***, and be completed by noon.

Thank you to our wonderful community partners and volunteers who have made this vision a reality.
